BARALARM Alarm Barometer - Prototypes to Invention by Commodore NOEL BEVAN This is one of the lots I have that belonged to a very eminent naval officer, Surgeon Commodore Noel Bevan, indeed he actually invented and made it. To see a brief biog of his naval life please see below. This was one of Bevan's inventions created by his company "Bevan Seatech Ltd". I have googled this company and other than finding a small article about this item and that the company was dissolved there is little to find. This lot consists of 2 prototypes and a finished item. It is basically a barometer alarm set to go off when the pressure reaches a certain point. The description I found online reads "This pocket-sized instrument, with an accuracy better than one millibar, has been designed by Bevan Seatech Ltd. It provides not only accurate pressure measurements but audible warning of pressure change of pre-set magnitude and can thus give notice of wind shifts, storms, etc. It runs continuously for over one year on a 1.5 volt battery." The finished item measures 16.5cm x 7.5cm x 3.5cm, I placed a AA battery in it and indeed an alarm did go off when the pressure reached the set level. As for how accurate the instrument is, I can not say! Please take the time to see the many photos provided for further details of design and condition. Please see photos for details. Great original condition. Marks commensurate with age.
