A late 19th century large brass library telescope with stand, made by the renowned Aitchison of London. In original wooden Fitted Case. The “Aitchison of London” mark can be seen on the face of the main tube, just up from the eyepiece. The telescope is attached to the stand by two screws and can be disassembled with minimal fuss. A fine focus ring is at the back of the main tube. All quite heavy and well constructed. The condition is largely good considering its age, though there are dents and scuffs to the main tube. The optics are also very good – remarkable for a telescope of this age. With an Interesting Letter from Sotherby's of London Dated 1995 stating auction value £250 - £350.
