This is an antique brass telescope, an English single draw refractor for maritime, terrestrial or astronomical use by T Harris & Son, London and dating to circa 1810. Supplied ready to enjoy; Wooden primary barrel (possibly mahogany) Single, brass draw tube in good order 38mm, 1.5" achromatic objective lens Sliding dust cover to objective lens Swivel dust cover to flared eye cup Engraved 'T Harris & Son, London', an historic, period piece as beautiful today as it was two hundred years ago. Dimensions: Closed Length: 51cm (20'') Max Drawn Length: 98cm (38.5'') T Harris & Son was an Optician and Instrument Maker Operating out of London and founded in the latter part of the 18th century, Thomas Harris brought his son, William, into the business in 1806. By 1817, marketing themselves as 'opticians to the Royal Family', the firm T Harris & Son were trading from Great Russell Street (opposite the British Museum). 1846 saw a move to High Holborn Street. The firm remained in business into the 20th century. Great original piece. Lenses intact a few dints and marks commensurate with age.
