8 Vintage Brass Ships Opening Portholes "Dunkirk" 1945 ETT/2250


Set of 8 Vintage Bronze Ships Opening Portholes complete with all outer rings.. These were removed from "Matilda" a Motor Launch from the Chelsea Yacht Club, one of the "little ships" from the Dunkirk evacuation of WW2. Your chance to own a piece of history. The Dunkirk evacuation, codenamed Operation Dynamo and also known as the Miracle of Dunkirk, was the evacuation of Allied soldiers during World War II from the beaches and harbour of Dunkirk, in the north of France, between 26 May and 4 June 1940. The operation commenced after large numbers of Belgian, British and French troops were cut off and surrounded by German troops during the six-week Battle of France. In a speech to the House of Commons, British Prime Minister Sir Winston Churchill called this "a colossal military disaster", saying "the whole root and core and brain of the British Army" had been stranded at Dunkirk and seemed about to perish or be captured. In his "We shall fight them on the beaches" speech on 4 th June, he hailed their rescue as a "miracle of deliverance" 9" overall. window 6" Flange 1.5" Weigh over 3.00 Kilos Each. These have been cleaned and polished and are now in great condition. Great original pieces. No major damage, all glass intact a few dints and marks commensurate with age. Ideal display pieces.
