VICE ADMIRAL EDWARD HENRY HOWARD'S NAVAL DRESS SWORD, CIRCA 1880 with 31in. etched steel blade, hinged thumbpiece to gilt half-basket hilt, shagreen grip and full-length lion's mane handle, in scabbard of issue -- 39in. (99cm.) overall. Vice-Admiral Edward Henry Howard was born on 7 June 1832. He was the son of Very Rev. Hon. Henry Edward John Howard and Henrietta Elizabeth Wright. He married Sophia Caroline Lucille Lynch, daughter of Francis Robertson Lynch, on 28 April 1873. He died on 18 January 1890 at age 57.      He gained the rank of Vice-Admiral in the Royal Navy.
