Vintage Wooden Ships Double Pulley Block with Iron Ring & Shackle Salvaged from the "Tall Ship Glaciere of Liverpool" Wheels Run Smoothly 12" overall - Block 6.5" x 5" x 5" Glaciere was a Baltic Cutter built in 1899 by a shipbuilder Rasmussen in Marstal on the island of Ærø –Aeroe. At that time Marstal was probably the largest home town for small wooden ships in Denmark. Today it is a sleepy small place struggling to survive – and barely doing so. It was named Titus - and sailed a few years without an engine. After World War One during a economic depression in Denmark it was sold to Norway. After a few years she was wrecked on the west coast of Denmark under the name of Mostein. She was saved and outfitted for stone-fishing from Nyborg under the name of Leif (a common danish male name). Nyborg was the island Fyns main-ferry-port to Sjælland (zealand? –the island where Copenhagen is situated). Many of the old wooden ships were converted to stone-fishing between1900-1920 and the late 1950's. It was at that time the only way to get and place large stone so it was possible to build piers to protect harbours against the wind and waves. You can say that type of work ended when Glaciere was sold from Gilleleje in 1970 . As far as I can make out the old ship was named Glaciere when it was bought. The name is very odd –and nobody today know where it came from. The Boat spent it's final years in and around Liverpool. This is a one time chance to obtain your piece of maritime history. Please see my other items salvaged from this rather special Tall Ship. Great original piece. Dints and marks commensurate with age.
This exceptional item will make a great display piece for nautical decor.
