Vintage1935 Heath & Co Three Circle Frame Ships Sextant Hezzanith Endless Tangent Screw Made for John Lilley & Son North Shields No B895 All lenses, filters & mirrors intact A brass and bronze three-circle frame micrometer sextant, signed on the arc " HEATH & Co, NEW ELTHAM, LONDON. S. E. 9. MADE FOR John Lilley & Sons Ltd,North Shields " complete with a telescope and a direct view, seven shades, in fitted wooden carrying box with 'HEZZANITH OBSERVATORY' Certificate of Examination, dated 1935. The name and the number on the sextant match the the certificate. The sextant is 6 1/2" in radius. The index arm has a quick-release clamp at the end. There is a plaque attached to the index arm, it reads "HEZZANITH, ENDLESS TANGENT SCREW, AUTOMATIC CLAMP, PATENT". Also marked on the index arm: HEZZANITH, RAPID - READER, PATENT. The telescope gives clear up right images. The threaded telescope bracket/ holder is adjusted by a rising-piece and a milled knob . The sextant is in good condition, and all mirrors and shades are good. Some black paint has been rubbed off in places. The sextant is fitted in its well made case with green felt trims on the lid, brass hinges, catches, a brass handle, and a lock with no key. 1959 Test certificate by B Cooke & son ltd. of Hull The case measures approx. 11 x 10 1/4 x 5 1/4 inches.
